Rheinmetall NIOA Munitions Pty Ltd (RNM), a joint venture between Rheinmetall Waffe Munitions and NIOA Pty Ltd has established a state of the art forging and manufacturing facility in Maryborough QLD that produces artillery shell cases and other munitions-related products for supply to the defence industry.

What are we looking for?

The Process Engineer, reporting to the Production Manager is responsible for defining plant process and equipment parameters to ensure conformance requirements to specific product manufacturing standards and for developing and coordinating the overall machine specifications, designing machines or systems and establishing the use of particular machines in line with safety standards to achieve desired efficiencies aligned to the site strategic objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that the process and equipment can produce products as per the stage drawings and meets the product qualification requirements
  • Assist to establish equipment standards to allow operators to move through operational stations efficiently.
  • CNC subject matter expert by developing and maintaining technical and operational understanding and compile and control the equipment specifications, process manufacturing instructions (PMIs) for plant and machinery.
  • Conduct technical evaluations from suppliers related to plant and machinery.
  • Implement tooling and spares optimisation processes regarding manufacturing, storage and allocations of tools into the production process whilst maintaining quality outcomes.
  • Compile product Bill of Materials (BoM) and Routings
  • Implement an overall configuration management system to manage equipment, process and product related drawings and specifications
  • Assist with the establishment of training curriculum and the implementation thereof for equipment and machinery operation and maintenance.
  • Assist with the recruitment of technical resources required to support the plant
  • Manage the design and usability of a machine and integrated machine systems (e.g. roughing fine).
  • Ensure machine or system functions are at their optimum performance level to achieve efficiency in terms of workload and that they are effectively maintained.
  • Establish performance measures of the machine or system given a particular working circumstance.
  • Support the maintenance and operating procedures for the machines.
  • Develop tool setting strategies and machine set up procedures that optimise changeover time and minimise process downtime.
  • Coordinate machine selection, installation, commissioning, and training activities.
  • Cooperate with the international project team.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Mechanical/Production Engineering Diploma or Bachelor Degree
  • Proven knowledge in tool management and work disposition.
  • Design and manufacturing experience
  • Thorough understanding of design effectiveness related to the practical implementation of designs to processes.
  • Experience co-ordinating and managing capital and production related projects.
  • Working knowledge and application of AS4024.1603 Safety of Machinery and ISO9001
  • Machinist trade with extensive knowledge of CNC machine tooling and engineering materials and experience in Mazatrol conversational CNC programming.
  • Drivers licence
  • Above average use of MS office software

Additional Requirements

  • Fit to work in munitions manufacturing environment.
  • Physical requirements to regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands and reach with arms, talk and hear. Occasional requirement to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or manoeuvre awkward and/or heavy items using aids.
  • Ability and resilience to work varied hours as required to achieve desired outcomes including overall leadership of teams on multiple shifts.
  • Ongoing police/security screening and checks and right to work in Australia.
  • Travel may be required.
